First time the final of the WC has had no Asian side since 1987. VVS Laxman: "Australia deserved to win." Nick Kight: "The game had slipped away from Dhoni. They never got ahead of the rate, they were always 15 or 20 runs behind." Nick has a good argument about chases - you don't always need one of the top three to compile a big, stately hundred - why not promote someone to number three and have them try to whack a 20-ball fifty?
11.40 Nasser previews the final: "If it swings, New Zealand have the better attack. At the end of the innings, Australia do. New Zealand have the better spinner. McCullum is the best captain in the world. Australia are the favourites, just, because New Zealand have to travel."
11.36 And here's Michael Clarke: "A lot of guys chipped in, a lot of guys sacrificed themselves for the team. I want to thank India for their performances this summer and for showing their talent and always competing. I don't think MS Dhoni will retire, he's still got a lot of cricket in him."
11.32 Here's Dhoni: "Over 300 is difficult. I felt there score was over par. I think our fast bowlers could have done better. A lot of people didn't think we would come far in the tournament. Shikhtar's dismissal was on the softer side, he was scoring quite freely and didn't need to play the big shot. It's more difficult for our lower order to score in these conditions. I am not sure if this is my last World Cup. I am still fit."
INDIA ALL OUT FOR 233. AUSTRALIA WIN BY 95 RUNS The Aussies excellent in every department today. Too good for India, once again. Bit of a strange chase from India, they just left themselves far too much to do. While there was Dhoni, there was hope, but it never really looked likely. Australia are worthy winners and they join co-hosts New Zealand in the final. I don't think you could deny these are the two best teams in the competition.
